Brianna Lyman of the Federalist reports one aspect of the New York City mayoral race that should surprise no one.
On Sunday the New York Post reported that New York City socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s campaign took in nearly $13,000 in “potentially illegal foreign donations.” Unsurprisingly, the party that spent four years claiming “no one is above the law” when justifying their lawfare against President Donald Trump is now silent on such alleged election law violations simply because Mamdani is one of their own.
According to the Post, “At least 170 of the nearly 54,000 contributions … came from donors with addresses outside the United States, an examination of NYC Campaign Finance Board records found.” As noted by the Post, only U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents can legally contribute to political campaigns and action committees. Any illegal donations must be returned.
“But so far,” the Post reported, “the campaign has failed to return 88 of the foreign donations worth a total of $7,190, records showed.” The foreign donations reportedly began pouring in ahead of the June primary.
While Mamdani’s campaign reportedly said Saturday it would “of course return any donations that are not in compliance with CFB law,” it did not clarify why Mamdani still had 88 foreign donations in its war chest, the Post reported. Mamdani’s campaign has returned some of the contributions — about $5,500 — including a contribution from Mamdani’s mother-in-law.
Notably, members of the Democrat Party are silent despite spending years telling Americans that “no one is above the law.” Of course, it’s now clear that such a refrain was repeated not because of their love of justice, but merely to justify Democrat led-lawfare against Donald Trump. …
… And nowhere is the left’s hypocrisy more apparent than in their refusal to hold Mamdani to the standard they set for Trump. There are no widespread calls for Mamdani to be held accountable to the law for allegedly still having illegal campaign contributions, and no one decrying foreign election interference.
Just radio silence.
