Center Launches K-12 Student Video Contest to Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday #America250RI

In celebration of America250, and in support of the US Department of Education’s “History Rocks! Trail to Independence Tour” in partnership with Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the Center announced this patriotic video contest for Ocean State students.

Participating students are asked to create and post a patriotic video-short describing why they are proud to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, with a focus on our nation’s underlying principle of liberty.

Conversely, nothing can be more un-patriotic than the indoctrination of young students with false narratives about their country. This America250 contest is designed to directly counter the blatantly anti-American social studies standards adopted by the R.I. Department Of Education, which were drawn from discredited “critical race theory” tenets and which falsely teach that America was founded in order to oppress others.

“Real patriots know that America’s true birthright is one of liberty,” said Mike Stenhouse, the Center’s CEO. “We are excited to hear from Ocean State youth about why they are proud to be an American; and how our God-given and Constitutional freedoms have impacted their lives or inspired their dreams.”

Sponsored by AFP, prizes will be awarded within each of three grade categories: $250 gift cards for the three winners; $100 gift cards for the six other finalists; and 10 copies of the book, American History in No Time, to all nine finalists.

Contest details and instructions can be viewed at RIFreedom.org/America250RI.

Americans for Prosperity is America’s largest grassroots, pro-freedom advocacy organization, boasting over 4 million activists and is also a sponsor of the US DOE’s “History Rocks!” tour.

The Center’s new young-professionals network will provide most of the volunteer judges.
