Harrisburg, Pa., August 1, 2025 — Pennsylvania is entering the second month operating without a state budget, with no end in sight. Amid the protracted impasse, many have begun to question the governor’s priorities as days pass without substantial progress.
Andrew Lewis, President and CEO of the Commonwealth Foundation, issued the following statement in response:
On June 30th, the state budget deadline, Gov. Josh Shapiro said that the budget “will land very, very soon.” Thirty days later, we’re still here, with no state budget and no leadership from the governor.
While the state’s next fiscal year remains a mystery, Gov. Shapiro seems unbothered, jetting out of state for campaign fundraisers or to join late night talk shows in an attempt to bolster his national profile.
Meanwhile, here in Pennsylvania, residents are left wondering if key issues like educational choice, energy, and Medicaid reform are even being considered by the governor and his party.
Pennsylvanians deserve better than a much too online, yet still offline governor. Now two months into an impasse, it’s time for Shapiro to stop the talk show gabs and start governing.
