Trump Issues Ultimatum In Texas GOP Senate Primary Slugfest, Hints At Endorsement

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is planning to endorse one of the two candidates that advanced to Texas’ May Republican Senate primary runoff election.

Trump’s comments come after Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn and Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton advanced to a May showdown in Tuesday nights primary, after Trump had remained neutral. The president wrote in a Truth Social post the following day that he plans to make his endorsement in the race “soon,” adding that he will be asking the candidate that he does not endorse “to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE!”

“The Republican Primary Race for the United States Senate in the Great State of Texas, a State I LOVE and won 3 times in Record Numbers (the HIGHEST vote ever recorded, by far!!!), cannot, for the good of the Party, and our Country, itself, be allowed to go on any longer,” Trump wrote in the social media post. “IT MUST STOP NOW!”

“We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively!” the president added referring to Democratic Texas State Rep. James Talarico who won his party’s nomination over Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett. “Both John and Ken ran great races, but not good enough.”

“Now, this one, must be PERFECT! My Endorsements within the Republican Party have been virtually insurmountable!,” Trump continued. “It is such an honor to realize and say that almost everyone I Endorse WINS, and wins by a lot, especially in Texas! I will be making my Endorsement soon, and will be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! Is that fair?”

Trump’s Truth Social post did not explicitly say which Senate candidate he plans to endorse. He also added that Republicans “must win in November!!!”

The president’s political advisers expect him to endorse Cornyn, The Atlantic reported on Wednesday, citing three anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
