Until today, anti-missile/rocket systems required either other missiles/rockets or chain guns firing projectiles at incoming threats. Today, Israel used laser beams to do the same job much cheaper and, at least so far, more effectively stop incoming rockets – as they were launched.
Hezbollah thought they needed to get into this conflict before it was totally over… I guess. So they decided it would be great to launch some highly inaccurate rockets from Lebanon into civilian centers in Israel.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) was prepared. The Iron Dome laser defense system, jointly developed with the United States, destroyed every rocket within seconds of launch.
