Welcome to Gracie Manor, Mr. Cardamom

Happy 4th of July and America 250 to half of the country, who wake up each morning knowing they have won the lottery by being born in the greatest country on the map. And condolences to the rest of the country, who, despite all of the positive metrics, will wake up dour today, have their glass of pickle juice, and go about the day hating Donald Trump, America, and anyone who supports and loves either. Though both sides are enjoying the fruits of America, we have never been so divided, and what we saw last night, on the eve of America’s anniversary, was living proof.

I tuned into my favorite 4-square live view of the day’s happenings and got the usual results. FOX was covering the festivities at the base of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota as a Presidential flyover in Air Force One and Marine One, an uplifting (and shortened) Presidential speech, and an impressive light and fireworks display lighting up the faces of four of America’s greatest leaders set the tone for the weekend celebration. The other three networks: CNN, MSNOW, and the BBC showed anything but the celebration in our great Midwest. This is why half the country does not have a clue as to what is happening, but that ignorance does not stop them from protesting and painting their vision of America’s plight.

Rachel Maddow, who only owns one black t-shirt, is gay, and makes $30 Million a year for one night’s work, was hosting a progressive, anti-America Alternative 250, and Zohran Mamdani, who was born to successful parents in Uganda, immigrated to America, attended the prestigious Bowdoin College, whose only job was as Mr. Cardamom the rapper, and at the young age of 34 is mayor of the greatest city on Earth, were filling the mainstream media with stories of why this country should be the victim of a wrecking ball. It would all be laughable if it were not so sad and damaging to America.

Trump, after circling the Mount in our new Air Force One and then in Marine One, came to the stage and delivered a moving two-pronged speech highlighting the accomplishments and promise of America and Americans, and issuing a warning and condemnation of the Communist movement rising in hopes of taking America down. It was brief, relatively free of the usual Trump embellishments, and got his point across that this is the greatest country in history, and no ideologues will ever take it down from within.

On the other side of the spectrum, Mamdani gave a depressing address in a darkened room, flanked by obvious immigrants holding tiny American flags, about the failures of his city and country. The man who has never produced anything but rap lyrics, who was raised by millionaire parents, and somehow convinced ignorant, upper-class, and supposedly educated New Yorkers to give him the keys to Gracie Manor. He is the very image of the American dream that he rails against. On a night when Taylor Swift has locked down much of Manhattan to finally wed Travis Kelce, Mamdani has shut down the escalators in the subways to save energy. On a night when the temperature rose to triple digits, he told New Yorkers to set their thermostats at 78 while looking cool in a jacket and tie, telling them what a lousy place they live in.

It was the best of America and the worst. It was the tale of two Americas through the eyes of two of its most influential men. It was a microcosm of America at 250, where half its people wake with a smile and hope, while the other half wake with a frown and desperation.

Happy 250 and God bless this incredible land.

Author’s Note: Graphics created by Grok AI. Grok’s comments about the images: I aimed for a balanced yet evocative style that captures the “tale of two Americas” contrast: patriotic celebration vs. division/critique.

1. Mount Rushmore Spectacle (The Best of America)

2. Contrasting Visions (Trump Speech vs. Mamdani Address)

3. The Divided Dream (American Flag & Contrasts)

These visuals emphasize the piece’s themes of celebration, contrast, and the American experiment at 250.
