Socialists take over America’s Democratic Party

Arthur Schaper writes for American Greatness about a disturbing development in American politics.

For decades, the Democratic Party exploited—but also restrained—its more liberal, anti-American activists. However, as they have become outrageously progressive, communistic, and violent, they have lost control of themselves, and now they are taking over.

Democratic Party operatives thought they could maintain control, and for a while, they succeeded. The efforts of aggressive progressive partisans succeeded in taking over the DNC in 1972. They promoted progressive George McGovern for president, and the Democratic National Committee embraced some of the most radical left-wing positions.

Thankfully, such communistic madness was duly punished that same year. A relatively popular incumbent, President Richard Nixon, routed the left-wing ideologue and forced the Democrats to regain some sanity if they wanted to win future elections. Nixon listened to the silent majority, restored public order, and brought love of America into the mainstream.

Democrats needed to tap into that sane sentiment to improve their chances of winning in the future. Democratic establishment leaders reasserted control shortly afterwards, then nominated a plain-spoken Evangelical Christian governor from Georgia as their 1976 presidential nominee. They appealed to middle America, providing an ethical alternative to the scandal and incompetence of prior Republican administrations.

However, right after his inauguration, President Jimmy Carter veered to the left, entertaining gay rights and abortion and enacting the Department of Education as a sop to the teachers’ unions. Democrats have spiraled downward toward socialism ever since, even after President Bill Clinton’s sharp pivot to the right after the Republican Revolution of 1994.

Half a century later, the Democratic radicals, socialists, and outright communists have not just forced their way into the Democratic Party. They are taking over, seizing the levers of power and means of production.

The Democratic Socialists of America have invaded the Democratic Party, and they are not relenting. The Democratic Party only has itself to blame.
